Responsible initiatives and sustainable dreams
Wherever you are at Kragerup Estate and Activity Park, you will experience our responsible operations and efforts to minimize our environmental footprint.
SDG 3: Health and well-being & 8: Decent jobs and economic growth
The Kragerup family
At Kragerup Estate, we are a big family with employees from four industries under one roof: hotel, restaurant, experience and agriculture. This special composition means that many different skills are brought into play, and we as a company have an obligation to create the right conditions for all our dedicated employees to succeed.
We do this by ensuring an informal and familiar environment where social relationships and well-being are highly valued and where everyone has room to make a difference in their everyday lives.
Health and well-being
Through our pension plan, we offer free health insurance that gives employees the help they need – quickly and without financial worries.
We actively support social events across departments, creating a strong sense of community and collaboration among employees. In addition, our food program offers nutritious meals, which serves as a social gathering point.
With these initiatives, we are committed to creating a healthy and engaged workplace where well-being and community are paramount.

SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation & 7: Sustainable energy
Positive energy
For many years, Kragerup Estate has had a green agenda and ambition to take care of the environment. That dream has become a reality with Kragerup Energy Park, which includes wind energy, our own water extraction and self-sufficient heat production with our own straw boiler. At the same time, we look forward to powering an energy system through battery storage with the possibility of hydrogen production and establishing a large solar cell plant.
With these initiatives, Kragerup Estate is the first CO2-neutral estate in Denmark with an annual surplus of approximately 10,500 tons of CO2 in our climate accounts.
Renewable energy
The energy journey started in 2012 with the construction of six Siemens 101 turbines of 3 MW each, producing power for half of Kalundborg Municipality’s households.
The latest project is an energy system with battery storage in collaboration with European Energy. The battery can help balance the electricity grid and store green electricity when large amounts of it are produced. In addition to the battery, it will also eventually be possible to produce green hydrogen using green electricity when the market is ripe for this.
The next step is a 117-hectare solar plant that will be able to produce 105 MWh hours, which is about 20 homes’ average power consumption per hour. The plant will be built on low-lying land to utilize areas that are not suitable for food production. It is being built in collaboration with Better Energy and is planned to start up in 2026.
Supply
In addition, we have a self-sufficient heat production with our own straw boiler and straw from Kragerup’s fields that supplies the estate with heat.
Responsible operation
We are committed to conserving our resources and have therefore prioritized reducing our energy and water consumption. We have installed water-saving toilets and water-saving taps and showers throughout the estate.
We only use what we need, which is why sensors are installed on both taps in the activity park and on light sources in many places on the estate.
For internal use, staff use electric cars, and we also make it easy for our guests to drive electrically by installing charging stations for electric cars.
Objectives

2027
Utilize surplus energy from own wind turbines to produce green hydrogen through the established Power-to-X plant in collaboration with European Energy
2028
Reducing our carbon footprint by installing solar panels
SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production
Food in moderation
At Kragerup Estate, we take our food resources very seriously and have implemented several measures to reduce our carbon footprint and recycle resources and waste in the best and most gentle way. We focus on minimizing the consumption of carbon-intensive food by prioritizing local and seasonal produce. Our initiatives also include efficient management of food waste, organic waste and residual products, where we recycle as much as possible. By taking these steps, we actively contribute to a more sustainable future and show our dedication to environmental responsibility.

Reducing food waste
This not only helps to reduce our environmental footprint, but also promotes a healthier diet. With these initiatives, we are committed to creating a more sustainable future.

SDG 15: Life on land
At one with nature
Kragerup Estate is deeply rooted in nature through its century-long history of farming and forestry. We strive to be responsible in all aspects of our operations, including agriculture, using the most advanced technologies and methods that respect and protect the environment. Our approach not only ensures a healthy balance between production and conservation, but also reinforces our commitment to preserving and enriching the natural environment around us for the benefit of our guests and local communities.
Here you can find an overview map of our forest area and associated trails.
Life in the countryside
For our conference guests, we offer walk-and-talk trails and green oases that create an ideal setting for conversation and reflection. We also facilitate outdoor team activities that take participants around the green surroundings and strengthen collaboration and community. For those who want a deeper connection to nature, we offer overnight stays in shelters where guests can cook over a campfire and live close to nature.
With these initiatives, we invite everyone to experience and appreciate the unique nature that Kragerup Estate has to offer and help preserve it for future generations.
Good farming
We are very conscious of how we treat the soil to achieve optimal yields without harming the environment. Through good farming practices, we ensure that our farming is both productive and gentle, and that we can continue to grow high quality crops.
Forestry and nature conservation
Kragerup Estate runs 200 hectares of forest in collaboration with Hede Danmark, and in 2019 we became PEFC environmentally certified, which means that our forestry operations are carried out in a sustainable way.
We support biodiversity by leaving tree litter and organic materials, which benefits both animals and plants. This litter is an important part of the ecosystem, providing habitat and nourishment for different species of fungi, insects and small animals and promoting biodiversity.
An important part of our forest is the Go High climbing park, where just over 80 trees are equipped with platforms fitted with so-called taps, which protect the trees and extend their lifespan as the trunk can grow naturally over the taps. This creates a more natural connection between the trees and the climbing courses. We produce certified wood chips from surplus wood, which are sold to environmentally certified CHP plants, contributing to sustainable energy production.
By using sustainable methods and technologies, we ensure that our forests can thrive and develop for the benefit of both present and future generations.
