The Baron’s room
<p style="font-weight: 400">Baron Cai Schaffalitzky de Muckadell (1877-1972) was a prominent figure in Danish history. Birgitte Dinesen, the 8th generation of the Dinesen family at Kragerup Gods, shares her memories of her great-grandfather: </p>
<p style="font-weight: 400">“Baron Cai Schaffalitzky de Muckadell was my great grandfather. His daughter, Viveka Schaffalitzky de Muckadell, was my grandmother. Tragically, she died in childbirth in 1946, when my father was only 18 years old. I remember my great-grandfather from my childhood and cherish the many fascinating stories he told.”</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400">Cai was a naval officer who served as second in command of the Royal Yacht Dannebrog in 1913 and as chief of the submarine fleet until 1919. He had a deep passion for maritime history and wrote several books on the subject. Between 1930 and 1960 he published 31 books for boys, which became quite popular. During World War II, he worked as an editor for Berlingske, after his time as a foreign and war correspondent for the paper. Baron Cai Schaffalitzky de Muckadell died at the age of 94, 26 years after losing his daughter. </p>
