Restaurant Blixen

<p style="font-weight: 400">Restaurant Blixen, located in the basement of the main building, opened in 2015 after a complete renovation.</p> <p style="font-weight: 400">The old estate kitchen is now part of Restaurant Blixen. The old wood-burning stove with rings and old copper pots from the 1800s. It was here that housekeeper Petrine cooked with a Manna cerut in her mouth during all her waking hours. This is where all the food for the manor and servants was prepared until Regitze Dinesen’s great-grandfather died in 1965. </p> <p style="font-weight: 400"><b><strong>The woman behind the name</strong></b><br /> Restaurant Blixen is named after the author Karen Blixen, born Karen Christentze Dinesen (1885-1962). She was the daughter of Captain Dinesen (1845-1895) and Ingeborg Westenholz (1856-1939). Her grandfather Adolph Vilhelm Dinesen (1807-1876) was born on Kragerup Gods, and Karen Blixen visited her relatives on the estate in her youth. It is said that some of her first publications, under the pseudonym Isak Dinesen, were inspired by the surroundings and history of Kragerup Gods. </p> <p style="font-weight: 400">In the restaurant, the interior and decor are inspired by her life in Africa. In addition, her famous short story “Babette’s Feast” has been recreated several times as an event at Kragerup Gods with a 5-course dinner and a lecture on Karen Blixen’s life. </p> <p style="font-weight: 400"><b><strong>Serving with soul</strong></b><br /> The food at Restaurant Blixen should help to support and tell the history of the house and offer great dining experiences. We use fresh seasonal ingredients, seasonal herbs and edible flowers from the estate’s kitchen garden and delicacies from local farmers. The estate kitchen creates Danish food with French traditions.
