Jens Kraft Dinesen

Jens Kraft Dinesen (1768-1827) was born in Roskilde on January 29, 1768. His father died in 1785, after which his mother raised him to take over Gyldenholm Estate. On May 19, 1793, Jens took over Gyldenholm for 100,000 rigsdaler. Jens married Johanne Ulrica Birgitte Christine Gøring (1774-1829) and had a total of eight children, four boys and four girls. Their firstborn son Anders Didrich was only 14 months old. Their third child Severine Dorothea Marie was only 13 years old. Of the six children who survived childhood, they included twins Magnus and Hanne Emilie. Jens realized that his wife might die in childbirth and therefore made a will to ensure that Gyldenholm Estate remained in the Dinesen family.

Jens sold Gyldenholm Gods in 1800 and bought Kragerup Gods in 1801, becoming the first Dinesen of Kragerup Gods. He transformed the old manor house into the classicist farmstead that exists today. He built a new main building to the west and thereby achieved an open and outward-facing courtyard. The new courtyard was thus mirrored in relation to the former manor house. Jens Kraft Dinesen’s son Anders Didrich Dinesen took over Kragerup Gods after him.

He was appointed Justitsråd on April 21, 1812 and died at Kragerup Gods on August 29, 1827. Jens’ wife thus announced his death:

“That my dearly beloved husband, Justice Jens Kraft Dinesen, after several years of weakness, left this earth on Wednesday the 29th of this month, is hereby announced with deepest regret to absent family and friends. Four children receive him in eternity and six mourn with me the passing of the beloved, righteous father.”
