Alvilde Dinesen

<p style="font-weight: 400">Alvilde Dinesen (1841 – 1893) was born on July 12, 1841 on Katholm and was the daughter of Adolph Vilhelm Dinesen (1807-1876) and Dagmar Alvilde v. Haffner (1818-1874). </p> <p style="font-weight: 400">Alvilde was Karen Blixen’s aunt. She owned Rungstedgaard, Rungstedlund and Folehave and took them into her first marriage. </p> <p style="font-weight: 400">In 1863, she married her cousin, Johan Ulrik Peter Wilhelm Dinesen (1832-1874), who was an officer. Johan died in 1874, just 11 years into their marriage. In 1880, she married Johan’s brother, Jens Kraft Jacob Sophus Dinesen (1830-1910), who also adopted the couple’s four children. Alvilde and Johan also had a son, Wentzel Marius Dinesen (1869-1881), who was only 12 years old. </p> <p style="font-weight: 400">Neither cousin-cousin marriages nor the acquisition of a widow were uncommon in the latter half of the 19th century and many names were therefore repeated in families. Single women had no status, even if the widow came from a good family. By marrying Jens Kraft, Alvilde maintained her position. </p> <p style="font-weight: 400">Alvilde died on September 18, 1893 at Rungstedgaard.</p>
