Alice Laura la Cour & Jens Kraft Dinesen

<p>Jens Kraft Dinesen (1864-1916) was born on September 21, 1864 in Copenhagen and graduated as a forestry graduate in 1889. In 1895, Jens took over the lease of the main farm Kragerupgaard with the settlement farm Rugskov. It wasn’t until 1910 that he took over Kragerup Gods from his uncle and stepfather, whom he was named after. Jens was very interested in the estate, the forest and the breeding animals. He tended the forest and bought a number of small properties along the western border of the estate, where he started planting. At one point, his cattle herd was the most valuable in the country. </p> <p>Jens Kraft Dinesen and Alice Laura la Cour (1882-1933) were married on April 2, 1902. Jens was a good, understanding and helpful employer. Both he and Alice had taste and an appreciation of art. In 1912, they restored Kragerup Gods and modernized the old building, garden and park. </p> <p>Alice was the daughter of the Danish Vice Consul in Edingburg, merchant and shipbroker Lauritz Ulrik la Cour, who owned a number of coal mines in Scotland and her mother was Alice Maria Elam. Alice was born on July 12, 1882 in Edinburgh and came to Denmark in 1896, where she lived for three years with her aunts in Randers. She visited Denmark again in 1901 and married Jens the following year. </p> <p>Jens died of pneumonia in Copenhagen on April 5, 1916 at the age of 52. As the couple was childless, Kragerup Gods passed to Jens’ brother Axel Wilhelm Dinsen. </p> <p>After Jens’ death in 1916, Alice inherited all the interiors at Kragerup, which she took with her to Rungsted. Here she built Rungstedgaard – an imitation of Kragerup Gods. Kragerup Gods was therefore almost empty. Alice remarried in May 1922 to the painter Peter Hougaard. She died in Copenhagen on January 26, 1933. </p>
