Named after the Danish author

The story behind the name

When you arrive at the atmospheric and intimate Restaurant Blixen inspirations Clear. The old estate kitchen with preserved wood-burning stove and copper pots has been the heart of the estate for hundreds of years. Today, the restaurant is decorated with the family’s African finds and the walls are adorned with portraits of the very inspiration for the restaurant: Karen Blixen. Our cozy eatery pays tribute to the Danish author, who is part of the history of the place as she was born Dinesen and in her younger days visited her relatives at Kragerup Gods. Karen Blixen was in many ways a bon vivant who spiced up life through exquisite dining experiences.

Her love of champagne and French cuisine was evident and she saw food as an art form, which she generously sprinkled throughout her literary works.

This love for decadent flavors and uncompromising quality is the main inspiration for Restaurant Blixen, which today offers both a well-curated evening menu and lunch a la carte.

Regitze Dinesen, estate owner and 9th generation

We love the concept of uneaten food, which is a term for food that has been on the shortest journey before it ends up on the plate. We believe that a good kitchen today should focus on sustainability, ecology and food waste, and incorporate more greens and protein crops – without compromising on taste.
