“In the old days, the men’s room was used as a billiard room. The gentlemen would come up here after a good dinner and enjoy cognac, a good cigar and a game of billiards. In the hallway in front of the room, there is a staircase to the ceiling, from where you climbed up every day to start the big tower clock.”

“The wing was originally built in 1625 as a private residence for the gentry. The reason for choosing a north wing as the private chambers at the time was to shield it from the sun, as the fine ladies did not want to get sunburned.”

The room is equipped with modern AV equipment.

“In the old days, the room was divided into a living room and four children’s rooms, where former estate owner Birgitte Dinesen and her two sisters Anne and Charlotte lived during their childhood. There was also a spiral staircase to the attic, where the maid’s tower room was located. Although the staircase to the attic no longer exists, the maid’s room is still intact in the attic.”

“Every self-respecting castle and estate has a secret door in the wall – can you see it? The door leads to one of our two kitchens. The white cupboard is also in the dining room and rumor has it that it must not be moved. In that case, the current owner of Kragerup will die. The cupboard has therefore not been moved for many generations.”

“The back staircase leading up to the granary is battered, but full of history about the true workhorses of the time. When the harvest was in, all the ‘gold’ (sacks of grain) was carried up to the granary, which at the time was a kind of bank for the harvest yield until the grain was sold. There was an old hoist outdoors, but many sacks of grain were also dragged up the old stairs, which are still there.”

They all had students and boarders – most recently Regitze’s grandmother Marie Louise Dinesen. The studio is named after the period when the 8th generation Birgitte Dinesen lived in the house and used the room to develop her artistic skills. Many of her paintings now adorn the walls of Kragerup Estate.”

“In the sixties, there were pigs in the wagon gate on both the ground floor and the first floor. There was an elevator up and manure outside.
